Senator Kathy Marchione Names Dr. Catherine Allain of Grafton As Her 2015 “Woman Of Distinction” For The 43rd Senate District

May 7, 2015 By eastwickpress

Senator Marchione praises Dr. Allain’s lifelong dedication to the cause of education

Senator Kathy Marchione (R,C,I-Halfmoon), Chair of the Senate’s Local Government Committee, recently proudly announced Catherine Allain, Ph.D. Edu, of Grafton as her 2015 New York State “Woman of Distinction” for the 43rd Senate District. The 43rd District includes parts of Rensselaer, Saratoga and Washington Counties, and all of Columbia County.

[private]Dr. Allain serves as Principal of Berlin Central High School and is a proud graduate of Catholic Central High School and the Sage Colleges. Dr. Allain has earned her doctorate in education. She was nominated for the prestigious 2015 Woman of Distinction recognition by Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino and Thomas “Tucker” Hulihan.

Created by the New York State Senate, the Woman of Distinction Program showcases outstanding women living and working in New York State whose contributions have greatly enriched the quality of life in their communities and beyond.

“Dr. Allain has demonstrated a lifelong, impressive dedication to the important cause of education and has always put her students first. Her commitment to education, her students and her school is truly inspirational,” Senator Marchione said.

“I am proud that Dr. Allain will serve as the 2015 Woman of Distinction for the 43rd Senate District. Her life, and her work, reflects the enduring commitment and positive difference that so many of our hard-working educators have in shaping the lives of their students and opening opportunities for a brighter future. Dr. Allain is a genuine credit to the cause of education,” Senator Marchione stated.

“I thank Senator Marchione for the honor of being named her 2015 ‘Woman of Distinction’ for the 43rd Senate District. This is a true privilege and a recognition that I will always treasure,” Dr. Allain said.

Dr. Allain has been married to Josef Allain for 40 years and has three children: Jeanette Allain, Aimee Allain Tigg, and Christopher Allain. Dr. Allain credits many people as being positive influences in her life, including her Mother, Catherine Hulihan, for raising seven children on her own; her grandparents, Ann and Thomas Hulihan; her teacher, peer and good friend, Sr. Mary Kenan McGowan, and her first employer, Mrs. Dolores Parker.

Dr. Allain serves her community as a Board member of the Rensselaer County Sexual Assault and Crime Victims program; as a Board member of Together Reducing Drugs and Alcohol in our Communities for Berlin; on the Sage Colleges Advisory Committee; as President of the Berlin Administrators’ Association, and as a member of Community Coalition Against Drugs for Hoosick Falls. In addition, Dr. Allain is a volunteer Sunday school teacher for Our Lady of the Snow Parish in Grafton.

The announcement of Dr. Allain as Senator Marchione’s 2015 New York State Woman of Distinction for the 43rd Senate District was made recently in Albany as the Senate honored all of the 2015 Women of Distinction from each of the 63 Senate Districts during a special public recognition ceremony. As part of her special recognition, Dr. Allain’s picture, and her biographical information, will be included in the Senate’s statewide 2015 Women of Distinction printed program, website and gallery on display in the Legislative Office Building in Albany.[/private]
