Poet And Drummer Team Up For NL Library Programs

Poet and storyteller Nichael Czarnecki returns to the New Lebanon Library to co-present two programs with drummer Sue Spencer on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. All are welcome at these events, which are free and open to the public.

On Saturday at 3 pm, Spencer will lead the All One Song Drum Circle. Participants will have the opportunity to play as part of drum circle, improvise and have fun. The circle is open to all ages and levels of prior experience. Participants can bring their own drums, shakers, cowbells and other percussion instruments if they like or can use the variety of drums and percussion instruments which will be provided. On Sunday at 3 pm, Czarnecki will present All One Song, a collaborative program that features percussion, poetry, prose and photographs centered on the natural world and our relationship to it.

Michael Czarnecki is a poet, oral memoirist, photographer and small press publisher. He has published a dozen chapbooks and books of poetry and often goes out on the poetic road across America. Since 2008 he has presented numerous programs and workshops at the New Lebanon Library.

Sue Spencer started drumming as a child and began a journey that has never stopped. She’s had cherished opportunities to learn from renowned Master Drummers, and has loved playing with improvisational, rhythm & blues based rock-n-roll bands over the years.  Sue has long been a student of African Dance and she is currently dancing and drumming with Mounafanyi Percussion and Dance Ensemble. For more than 10 years she’s been sharing her love of drumming and dance with people of all ages through her endeavor *Make A Joyful Noise!*

For further information on these free events, please call the library at (518) 794-8844. The library is located at 550 State Route 20, 1/4 mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22. This event was funded in part by Poets & Writers, Inc. with public funds from New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
