April 23, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

Friday afternoon the Panther Ladies took on the Hoosic Valley Indians on the Hoosic Valley field. Hoosick Falls came away with a 11 – 9 win.

The Panthers, who scored three runs in the top of the first inning, trailed the Indians 8 – 3 at the bottom of the sixth. The Panthers then exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning. Erica Quackenbush tripled with the bases loaded to drive in the first three runs. Alyssa Ellis then doubled to drive in Quackenbush and tie the game. Sydney Miller knocked a double to right to score Ellis. Taylor Hayes capped the inning with a single to right field, driving in two more runs.

Maddy Ryan went 2 of 4 with a double and single, scoring twice. Quackenbush went 2 of 4 with 4 RBI’s. Stephanie Merwin and Abby Gilson each went 2 of 4, with Merwin scoring twice. Pitcher Alyssa Ellis went the distance.

The Ladies played Cambridge Monday afternoon on the HFCS diamond. It was a game that turned into a free for all. The score totaled 41 runs, and the Panthers had the slight edge, 22 – 19, to put another W in the book.

Cambridge got out to an eight run, top of the second inning lead. The Panthers came up in the bottom of the second and sent 20 batters to the plate, scoring 14 runs to take a 15 – 8 lead. The very windy day caused big problems with fly balls, making any catch a good catch. The teams both kept scoring runs, and even though the Panthers scored 22 runs, Cambridge wasn’t out of it until the final out.

Lizza Ryan went 3 of 5, including a triple, and scored three times. Chelsea Stevens went 4 of 5, including two doubles and she scored four times. Maddy Ryan was 4 of 5, knocking in three runs and Erica Quackenbush added three hits.

Alyssa Ellis (3 – 1) got the win on the mound. The team is 3 – 1 league, and 3 – 1 overall.
