Panther Girls Basketball Defeats Cambridge, 57 – 31

January 9, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The undefeated Lady Panther basketball team (7-0), ranked number two in New York State Class B, jumped out to a 22 – 4 first quarter lead and never looked back in defeating the Cambridge Indians Tuesday evening at Cambridge Central School. By the time the third quarter came to an end, the Panthers held a 51 – 23 lead. Cambridge had 29 turnovers that led to 28 of the Panthers’ points.

Rachel Pine led the attack with 18 points, including two three-pointers. Megan Flynn chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds with Kelly Pine adding 8 points.

On Thursday, January 8, the team travels to Stillwater. On Tuesday, January 13, the Panthers will host Greenwich (9 -0). The Panthers will face the Alexis Case led, undefeated Witches. The Witches are currently ranked number four in New York State Class C. Game time is 7:30 for both games.

She Played With The Boys

Alexis Case is averaging over 30 points per game and recently recorded a 38 point outing. Case, sister of former Panther basketball star Brittany Case, grew up playing basketball with the boys. In particular those boys would be Andrew Hoag, Austin Pitt, Willy Bradley and Mark Hackett, who are currently starters on the Panthers boys basketball team.

Back in 2008 – 2009, along with those four boys, there was one other starter, and that was Alexis Case. The Andy Nolan coached teams traveled all over the State, won their share of their contests and held their own against some of the better AAU teams from more populated areas.

The front row from left is Noah Chani, Jake Nolan, Rachel Pine and Andrew Hoag. All are important pieces of their current basketball teams with the exceptions of Wright, who has become a championship wrestler, and Haar, who excels at soccer. The two young ladies, Rachel Pine and Alexis Case, will lead their currently undefeated teams in a big game Tuesday evening at HFCS on January 13. The game has the makings of a classic. Admission is free. (Steve Bradley photo)
