The General Election race for Governor reflected the earlier results of the Democratic Primary in which Governor Cuomo won against Zephyr Teachout statewide but did poorly in the Eastwick area and in upstate generally. In Tuesday’s election Cuomo defeated Republican challenger Rob Astorino taking 54% of the vote. All of the Eastwick towns, however preferred Astorino who won in Grafton with 67% and even squeaked by in New Lebanon with 47%.
[private]In the NYS Comptroller race, incumbent Democrat Tom DiNapoli won easily statewide against Robert Antonacci but lost in Berlin, Grafton and Petersburgh. He did fairly well in Hoosick, Stephentown and New Lebanon.
Incumbent Attorney General Eric Schneiderman also won statewide with 56% of the vote but lost in all the Eastwick towns except New Lebanon.
In the 19th Congressional District incumbent Chris Gibson had no trouble with Democrat challenger Sean Eldridge. Gibson won with 65%. All of the Eastwick towns also voted for him with lopsided margins.
In the 43d State Senate District Republican Kathleen Marchione also had no trouble with her Democrat challenger, Brian Howard. Unlike Eldridge, Howard was no stranger locally having served as Interim Superintendent at Berlin Central School before he went to the Troy school district. Apparently it didn’t help him though. None of the Eastwick towns supported him much in the election.
Another incumbent, Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, won in his 108th District, taking 67% of the vote. He also won easily in all of the Eastwick towns against Philip Malone, East Greenbush Town Board member and almost invisible candidate,.
The election for Rensselaer County District Attorney is very tight and will probably be decided by absentee votes. There was no question in the Eastwick towns, however. They all preferred Republican Joel Abelove over Democrat Camelo Laquidara.
Justin Corcoran, Democratic candidate for Supreme Court Judge in the 3d Judicial District, won election by 52%. All of the Eastwick towns, however, preferred Lisa Fisher, the Republican/Conservative candidate.
All three of the Proposals on the ballot were approved statewide. The Eastwick towns OK’d #2, the sensible proposal to save paper with electronic distribution of State legislative bills. But they nixed the other two, proposal #1, a pretense of redistricting reform, and proposal #3, a $2 billion bond act for upgrading technology in schools and acquiring space for pre-k programs. New Lebanon, however, voted with the rest of the State, approving all three proposals.
