New And Improved Berlin Elementary School To Be Unveiled

October 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

submitted by Erin Clary, Communications Specialist, Berlin Central School District

The community is invited to attend the Grand Reopening of the Berlin Central School District on Wednesday, October 22, to showcase the myriad renovations and upgrades completed since June 2013. A ribbon cutting will take place at 5 pm at the main entrance of the Berlin Elementary School (BES) with remarks from Superintendent Dr. Stephen Young and Board of Education President Frank Zwack, Jr.

[private]District projects ranged from minor in-house upgrades, to a $6.8 million Capital Improvement Project, with the majority of major renovations conducted at BES.

Guests will have an opportunity to tour BES and view several new classrooms including two new third grade classrooms, an art room, music room and a science investigation laboratory. Most obviously, the main portico entrance has been restored to the original design. The character and charm of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) era construction remains the hallmark of the elementary school.

“We look forward to welcoming the community to Berlin Elementary for our grand reopening. Many of the improvements visitors will see – and those behind the scenes – will greatly enhance the health and safety for our students and staff, creating an environment that is much more conducive to learning,” said Young. “These improvements, as well as those conducted at the Middle School/High School, are part of our broader mission to provide the best opportunity for a successful educational program while continuously adapting and moving forward.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony and guided tours will take place from 5 to 6 pm followed by an Open House for BES students and families.
