HFCS Ladies Soccer Wins Three

September 26, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The HFCS Ladies soccer team is on a roll, ending the week with a 7 – 1 overall record and 6 – 0 in league play. Over the past week the Panthers defeated Cambridge, Stillwater and Greenwich.

At home on DeLurey Field, in the Cambridge game, the Panthers took a 2 goal lead into the half and won the game going away, 5 – 1. Rachel Pine and Taylor Mann each scored twice, and Jordyn Haynes scored once to take the win. Goalie Jayde Tutunjian had five saves. Cambridge goalie Courtney Davis had 11 saves for the Indians.

On Monday, once again at home, playing Stillwater, the Panthers dominated the opposition. Most of the game was played in Stillwater territory, and the 6 – 0 score reflected that. Jordyn Haynes put the Panthers on the board first with a goal at the 28 minute mark. With just 44 seconds left until the half, Rachel Pine added a goal to send the Panthers into the break with a 2 – 0 lead. After the break, the Panthers were just as aggressive as in the first half. Taylor Mann added to the Panther lead at the 25 minute mark. Raven Brenenstuhl added her first varsity goal with eight minutes left and Rachel Pine, after being knocked down, made good on a penalty kick with just over four minutes remaining to top the scoring. Rachel Pine had two assists on the day, and Rachael Lewsey added one. The Warriors did get some good shots, but Jayde Tutunjian had four saves and was able to keep the Warriors’ shots out of the goal. She also had a little luck when Stillwater bounced a couple off the crossbar.

On Wednesday the Panthers traveled up to Greenwich to face the Witches. They returned home with a 5 – 0 win. Rachel Pine had three goals; Taylor Mann and Alyssa Houghton each scored a goal. This is a treat for Houghton, as she is normally a defender.

Over the next week, the Ladies will make the trek up to Granville on Friday, September 26. On Tuesday, September 30, the Panthers will be home against Tamarac. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:15 pm
