Oversized Loads On Route 7

August 29, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson

Expect to see a convoy heading east at some point along Route 7 every Tuesday and Wednesday until the end of September. The convoy will consist of NYS Police, support vehicles and a 204 foot long vehicle consisting of a tractor, jeep and trailer hauling a preformed concrete bridge beam that is 141 feet long and 87 inches high. [private]According to Northeast Prestressed Products, LLC dispatcher Heidi Burnhauser, the total length is 204 feet with a gross weight of 289,500 pounds. That should put a little stress on the newly paved roadway.

“We delivered 20 beams last year, and we will deliver 20 this year,” said Burnhauser. The beams are being used to replace a bridge in Windsor, VT.

The convoy, which will be coming from Cressona, PA,  will begin its trek on Route 7 at the Collar City Bridge in Troy. Burnhauser said that because of the steepness of the hill and the heavy load traffic on all side streets will be stopped and the convoy will slowly climb the hill without stopping for any traffic lights.

The convoy will travel Route 7 to the Bennington Bypass and continue on to Windsor.[/private]
