August 29, 2014 By eastwickpress

submitted by HAYC3

HAYC3 today announced the unveiling event for the Hoosick Barn Quilt Trail. A community-wide celebration of art, music and rural culture in Hoosick premiering the Barn Quilt art installation created by members of the community will start at 10 am on Saturday, August 30, at the HAYC3 Armory on Church Street in downtown Hoosick Falls. It will last until 12 noon. Thirty-one barn quilts have been hung throughout the Hoosick area, all built, painted and hung thanks to a coordinated community effort. This family-friendly event is free of charge and complimentary maps are being provided that show where all 31 of the barn quilts are displayed. Food will be available for purchase.

Many of the people who worked on creating the barn quilts will be at the event, in the Perry Room (main floor), and so will expert quilters,

who will be demonstrating quilting techniques.

Poker Run

Drivers in any type of vehicle must visit five checkpoints where they draw a card at random. The goal is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Pick up instructions and registration will be at the HAYC3 Armory starting at 10 am; the entry fee is $20 for the driver and $10 for each passenger. Prizes will be based on how many participants enter and will be awarded for first, second and third place. Runners need to report back to the HAYC3 Armory by 12 noon to claim prizes.

Live Music

Music will be provided by Martha von Schilgen, who will be performing jigs, hornpipes and waltzes.

Quilt Show

During the event the 120gallery90 will be open, displaying our first ever quilt show with quilts handmade by local quilters.

Lecture

At 11 am Noreen Hinton will lecture on the subject of the Underground Railroad Quilts. Hinton has created a quilt containing sixteen patterns used during the age of slavery and will have the quilt on display during the event. The lecture will be held downstairs in The Keep.

Digital Participation

In addition to the maps available at the HAYC3 Armory, there will be an interactive digital map on our website (http://hayc3.org/bqmap) and a contest via Instagram. Participants can take a selfie with a barn quilt and share it via the social network using the hashtag #BQSelfie. Winners will be chosen at random. The more times you enter, the better your chances. The prize is a $50 gift card to a Hoosick business of your choice.

About the Hoosick Barn Quilt Trail

The thirty-one barn quilts are made of wood and painted with traditional quilt patterns. There are 21 eight foot by eight foot quilts and 8 four by four foot barn quilts. There are two smaller quilts, including a special doghouse barn quilt where Cooper the dog will be “pawing” autographs. The barn quilts celebrate our community and our heritage in the Town of Hoosick, Village of Hoosick Falls and the surrounding hamlets.
