Two HFCS seniors signed their National Letter of Intent to Division I schools Tuesday afternoon in the high school cafeteria. The signings took place in front of a crowd of coaches, administrators, teachers, fellow students and teammates.
Mackenzie Hinchliffe and Luis Weierbach will be attending college on sports scholarships.
Hinchliffe will be attending Stony Brook University, located in Stony Brook, NY. The school is located 60 miles east of New York City, about halfway across Long Island. She earned her scholarship in soccer. Hinchliffe was a standout player and a major factor in the Panthers’ two State championships in 2011 and 2012. In the 2013 season she scored 22 goals and had 32 assists and was voted Section II, Class B Player of the Year.
Weierbach will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, located about 75 minutes north of New York City. Weierbach earned his scholarship as a wrestler. He is a New York State Champion wrestler, winning it all in 2013. In 2012, Weierbach finished fifth in NYS. He is the first, and currently only, State wrestling champion from HFCS.
