Hoosick – Vivian H. deMercado, 90, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She had resided on Lester Lane in Hoosick, NY.
Born on April 1, 1923, in Albany, NY, Vivian was the daughter of the late George and Birdie (Burdick) Goyer. She was married to Clarence O. White for thirty-four years; he passed away in 1980. She married Ivan deMercado in 1994, he passed away in 1999.
Vivian attended Watervliet High School. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. David Frank in Williamstown, MA, and Dr. Donald Mead in North Adams, MA.
Vivian had previously resided in Williamstown, Bennington and Petersburgh, NY. She was very active in the community, volunteering for the Women’s Exchange in Williamstown, the Bennington Library, the Bennington Museum and the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Bennington Lions Club and Bennington AARP and was a member of the former Bennington Club. She enjoyed reading and painting, and she had a talent for decorating. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hoosick Falls, NY, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of several of the committees at the Church. She also helped at the HACA Food Closet in Hoosick Falls. Vivian especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sense of style, generosity and delicious apple pies.
Survivors include her son, Roger O. White and wife Beverly of Hoosick Falls, two stepsons, Phil and David deMercado, a brother, Floyd Goyer of Belchertown, MA, two grandchildren, Christopher White and wife Liz and Andrew White, a great-grandchild, Desmond White, nieces, Charlene Murphy, Laurie Robinson and Robin Littlejohn, nephews, Glen Rich and Scott and Jeff Goyer, a sister-in-law, Lois Goyer of Tarpon Springs, FL, and a brother-in-law, Charlie Ryan of Framingham, MA. She is pre-deceased by a sister, Evelyn McDuffie, and a brother, George Goyer.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 22, at 11 am from the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls with a reception to follow in the Church hall. Burial will be at 2 pm at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Friday evening from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Foundation of Albany or the First Baptist Church through the funeral home.
