Panther Bowlers Take Third At Schenectady Invy

January 17, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Coach Bob Lang

On Friday, January 10, the Hoosick Falls bowling team placed third at the Schenectady Invitational Bowling Tournament at Boulevard Lanes. The first place team was Mohonasen which had a total pin count of 3,899 followed by Amsterdam with a total pin count of 3,808 and Hoosick Falls with a pin count of 3,807. Twenty teams participated in the tournament; most of the teams were A and B schools in Section II.

Scores from the Hoosick Falls bowlers were Josh McCart 278-703, Jennifer Sargood 228-666 (her all time high triple), Ken Marbot 223-649, Stephen Surdam 216-633, Kyla Day 240-612 (her all time high triple) and A.J. Hurlburt 184-544. Jonathan Bossoni was a member of the team but did not bowl.

“This was another great team effort by everyone! It’s great to go down to the city and bowl well against a lot of the bigger schools in the area. The entire team bowled some outstanding scores which resulted in a great total pin count. Josh, Ken and Stephen bowled what I expected, and Jen, Kyla and A.J. (all first year bowlers on varsity) bowled a lot better than I expected. It was a great experience for the entire team which will help out when we come back to these lanes for Sectionals in February. This also helps build our confidence for the remainder of our league season, league tournament, league roll-offs and Sectionals,” said Coach Lang.

Hoosick Falls now has a point total record of 38-2 and a match record of 9-0-1 and Schuylerville now has a point total record of 25-11.

The top bowler for Schuylerville was Will Sullivan with a 217-573. Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Stephen Surdam 248-694, Ken Marbot 232-688, Josh McCart 240-613, A.J. Hurlburt 231-610, Jennifer Sargood 207-590 and Kyla Day 211-570.

Top Hoosick Falls JV scores were Jon Bossoni’s 209-534, Eric Bloomer’s 182-508 and Tanner Cahill’s 190-487.

“The team bowled outstanding today against our toughest opponent in the Southern Division. They seem to bowl great when they need to bowl good against a worthy team. It was another great team effort by all six varsity bowlers. This was one of our best match totals that we have had on our home lanes this year. These were the best scores that our JV team has had all year! I hope these good scores can continue for the next few weeks as we finish up our regular season and start tournament play,” said Coach Lang.
