Mountaineer Boys Basketball Round Up

The Berlin Boys varsity basketball team continued its winning record adding two more in the win column last week. On Wednesday, January 8, Berlin played strong from the tip-off and cruised to an easy win over New Lebanon 110 – 29.

Senior Jeff Curtis led Berlin’s scoring attack with 29 points including six three-pointers. Senior Cody Seel added 20 points of his own, and junior Matt Rokjer scored 18. Every player on the roster scored to help in the team effort.

The home game on Friday, January 10, against Heatly had the Hornets out to a quick lead, but Berlin got its rhythm down and never looked back. The Mountaineers’ lead at halftime was 39-25, and they continued to outscore Heatly in the next two quarters.

Heatly came into the game with a 4-0 record in CHVL play, and Berlin came in at 3-1 in CHVL play. A strong offensive game kept Berlin ahead by 20 points through most of the second half of the game.The scoring duties were balanced between senior Cody Seel, leading the Mountaineers with 23 points, junior Greg DePaolis, with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and senior Jeff Curtis, knocking down 14 points. Senior John Schatz scored 12 points while ripping down 18 rebounds.

Coach Sauer commented that “the team is truly coming into their own, and our balance offensively has become one of our strongest assets. The key now is to maintain consistency and keep working to improve our game day in and day out.”
