The Rensselaer County Legislature adjourned its year end special meeting on December 17 in memory of the Honorable Thomas G. Restino. Restino was a Trustee for the Village of Hoosick Falls, Justice of the Peace for the Town of Hoosick and then served four terms as a Rensselaer County Legislator for District 5 from 1974 to 1989. After that he served as Town of Hoosick Supervisor.
[private]The resolution says, “It is customary for this Legislative Body to pay honor and respect to persons who have had a great impact and influence on the citizens of this county during their time on this earth; it is with particularly deep sadness that we conclude this evening’s deliberations in honor of a truly respected member of the community…”
According to the resolution Restino was born in Hoosick Falls and was the son of the late Angelo and Anna Rose (Malillo) Restino. He was educated at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and then worked at Oak Mitsui in Hoosick Falls as a welder. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. His passion was politics, and, as an active member of his community, he was a member of the American Legion Post #40, where he had served as Commander, Adjutant and Chaplain. He also was the Past President of the St. Mary’s Academy Alumni.
The resolution says, “Tom will be missed by his family: his wife of 62 years, Helen; his children, Michele (Christine), Gregory (Kathy), Honorable Thomas (Margaret), and Kathryn (Jeff); his sisters, Margaret, Sophie and Angie (Tony); his grandchildren, Toni, Greg (Amina), Kathleen, Anna, Jake, Drew, Lucas and Rosey; his great-grandchild Liam. He was predeceased by his sisters Sadie, Augusta, Nonette (Dorothy); brother-in-law Francis and sister-in-law Mary.”
The Rensselaer County Legislature concluded its deliberations in memory of the Honorable Thomas G. Restino and extended its deepest sympathy to his family, fully confident that his contributions to his community will live on to serve as a legacy for all. The Clerk of the Legislature will transmit a copy of this resolution, suitably engrossed, to the family of the Honorable Thomas G. Restino.
It is hoped that the Restino family will attend an upcoming Legislative meeting so that the Legislature can make the presentation of the resolution to them in Tom Restino’s honor.
A ceremony to install Restino’s picture on the wall at the rear of the gallery in the Legislative chambers will take place sometime in January. The members of the Legislature who have died are depicted there.[/private]
