New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School business teacher, Michelle Daus, has been selected for the Julian A. Milkes Award for Outstanding New Business Educator for 2013. The award was presented to Daus at the Business Teachers Association of New York State’s (BTANYS) annual convention October 3-4 in Buffalo.

A letter from BTANYS President Joanne Ryan said Daus was selected by her peers for the prestigious award because of her exemplary efforts as a new business educator.
“Michelle’s application indicated, along with evidence, that she has demonstrated excellence in the classroom using creative and innovative approaches,” wrote Ryan. “It is obvious that Michelle provides a positive and comfortable atmosphere in her classroom for her students at the same time providing rigorous and relevant activities.”
Ryan continued, “The award selection committee overwhelmingly was impressed by Michelle’s application. Michelle’s attitude, qualifications and work ethic are outstanding. It is obvious that she works tirelessly for the students of New Lebanon.”
Daus, a Johnsonville native, recently moved to East Greenbush. She was hired by the District for the 2011-2012 school year. Now in her third year at New Lebanon Jr./Sr. High School, Daus teaches Home and Careers, Intro to Business, Intro to Foods, Career and Financial Management and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Some of those courses will be replaced with other courses in the second half of the school year, such as Advanced Foods and Sports and Entertainment Marketing. She is also advisor of the Class of 2017 and the school’s Appetites Anonymous/Food Club, which Daus said focuses on expanding students’ interest in learning more advanced cooking techniques and exploring careers in this industry. She is also one of the Drama Club advisors.
“We are pleased that Michelle Daus was selected for this award and that her work with our students has been noticed,” said Superintendent Karen McGraw.
