Hoosick Falls Jr./Sr. High School Chorus To Perform Once Again At Renowned Carnegie Hall

November 8, 2013 By eastwickpress

The Hoosick Falls Jr./Sr. High School Chorus has been invited back to Carnegie Hall in New York City for a special benefit performance on Saturday, November 16.
Hoosick Falls is one of three school choirs invited to perform at the Music of Hope 2013 concert, organized by composer/conductor/philanthropist Tim Janis. The concert benefits Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit organization that is committed to changing perceptions about people with autism by raising awareness of their abilities and their potential.
The 35 member Hoosick Falls chorus will perform several songs with the Tim Janis Orchestra in a concert that also features Forte – a popular new classical-crossover group from America’s Got Talent – along with opera-to-pop tenor Nathan Pacheco and You Tube sensation Nick Pitera. Tickets for the special concert went on sale Friday, October 18.
School District officials are arranging for two Yankee Trails charter coaches for parents, community members, teachers and staff who are interested in traveling to New York City to support the chorus and also to enjoy the day shopping, sight-seeing or taking in a Broadway show before attending a magical evening of music and hope beginning at 8 pm.
Round trip coach transportation costs $28, which includes gratuity. To reserve a seat on the coach, call music teacher Ambigay Yudkoff at 686-7321, ext. 1103, or contact Joyce Brewer at 258-5772. Checks should be made payable to the Hoosick Falls Central School or HFCS. Coaches will depart from Hoosick Falls Jr./Sr. High School at 5 am and arrive in New York City at 9 am for a day long rehearsal for chorus students beginning at 9:30 am. The Music of Hope concert will take place from 8 to 9:30 pm. Coaches will leave New York City to return to Hoosick Falls at 9:45 pm promptly.
The 35 chorus members, led by Choral Director Mrs. Yudkoff, continue to practice the six pieces they will perform on the legendary Carnegie Hall stage.
“The pressure is really on us to learn all the songs,” said Yudkoff. “It’s pretty intense, but at the same time – a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform on one of the greatest stages in the world and contribute to a worthwhile cause.”
This isn’t the first time the Hoosick Falls chorus has performed at the historic and iconic music hall. Twenty-five of the Jr./Sr. High School’s students sang in concert with the Tim Janis Orchestra and several other choruses from around the U.S. in the production, An American Christmas Carol,  in December 2010.
Tickets cost from $42; Coach costs $28.
