At a special meeting held on November 7, the Berlin Central School Board unanimously agreed to offer the School District’s current Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Stephen Young, a three year extension of his existing contract.
[private]According to meeting minutes, “The Board of Education has reviewed his performance for 2012-2013 school year and has deemed him to be effective in the position as the …Superintendent.”
The extension was approved by all Board members, with the exception of Jim Willis, who was absent that night.
Along with the extension the Board stated, “It is in the interest of the Berlin Central School District to approve a salary increase of 2% for [Dr. Young] for the 2012-2013 school year and a salary increase of 2% for the 2013-2014 school year.”
The Board had previously set aside funds for just such increases in the current year’s 2012-2103 and next year’s 2013-2014 budgets.
Dr. Young’s 2011-2012 base salary of $135,000 is now set to not exceed $137,700 for 2012-2103 and not exceed $140,454 for 2013-2014.
The Board, also voted at the November 19 meeting, with all in favor except Rachel Finney, who was absent, for the upgrade of the auditorium audio/visual system at the Middle School/High School. The renovations, which will be completed by the February 2014 break, are budgeted to not exceed $20,000. Estimates so far show costs at around $15,000 for equipment and $2,000 for installation. The administration will contact Questar Services to determine whether or not purchasing equipment through them would allow the District to receive aid for the project.
The next regular meeting of the Board will be Tuesday, December 17, in the high school auditorium.[/private]
