BCS JV Boys Off To A Good Start

September 13, 2013 By eastwickpress

by Jen Burhans
The Berlin boys JV soccer team is off to a good start with a 2-1 record.  The team is a mix of returning and new players.  After beginning the season with wins over Hoosic Valley and Mt. Everett they faced a steady HV team for their first home match.  Both teams battled back and forth without a goal for most of the first half before HV got off a long kick and made the first point.
The second half was more of the same with the goalies from both teams making good saves off fast breaks when HV again scored off a deep kick. With ten minutes to go Berlin’s John Gordon buried a perfect shot off a direct kick into the back of HV’s net to bring Berlin to one down.  The next nine minutes were  a flurry of activity with Berlin trying to tie the score.  The final whistle blew with a Berlin player on the attack inside the penalty box going one on one with the HV goalie.
The boys spend this week on the road facing LaSalle and Mt. Anthony.
