Robert J. Mabeus, Jr.

Stephentown  –  Robert J. “Bobby” Mabeus, Jr. (known  to many as Long Hair Bob), age 54, of Browns Road, Stephentown, NY, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA, after being stricken at his home.
ob-RobertMabeusJrBorn in Albany, NY, on October 7, 1958, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Catherine L. Shuhart Mabeus. He was the former husband of the late Ulrike A. Hoppe Mabeus, who died on June 26, 2013. They were married in Germany on July 15, 1979. Bob lived in Stephentown for three years, after moving from East Nassau, NY.
A 1978 graduate of Colonie Central High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Army where he served at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and in Schweinfurt, Germany, from 1978 until his honorable discharge in 1980. He worked primarily as a construction laborer and most recently at the Speedway Diner in West Lebanon, NY. Bob had a profound love for music, especially heavy metal, and attended countless concerts over the years.  In the 1990s, he sang in a local metal band called Pagan. Over the summers, Bob could usually be found swimming in the Kinderhook Creek at Black Bridge.  He was wonderful with animals and babies.  He also enjoyed model cars.
Bob leaves his daughter, Melanie C. and husband Jeremy Evans, his grandchildren, Molly Cardamone and Jack Evans of Averill Park, NY, his brother and best friend, John C. Mabeus of East Nassau, his two sisters, Mary Grace and husband Glenn Monuteaux of Schodack, NY, and AnnMarie Mabeus of New Lebanon, NY, his nieces and nephews, Cassie Swearingin, Jamieann Mabeus, Jessica Mabeus, Robert J. Mabeus III, Kairi Groves and Jaydon Mabeus, and his cat, Jasper.
There will be no formal services. A family picnic will be held at a later date to celebrate Bob’s life. To remember Bob in a special way, memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center Volunteer Services in care of the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168.
The family would like to thank the staff and counselors of the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany for all of the love and support shown to Bob through the years.
