Last Friday we were informed that the children at the Berlin Central Middle/High School were subjected to a surprise drug sniffing search by the Canine Unit of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department. The following is the letter sent to parents and guardians by officials at the BCS Middle/High School:
[private]“Dear Parents and Guardians,
This morning as our students arrived at school we conducted a drill with the Rensselaer County Sherriff’s [sic] Department and the Canine Unit. As the students exited their buses they were asked to line up, place their belongings on the ground and the dogs examined the bags to see if there were any drugs present. We are pleased to inform everyone there were not any drugs discovered today.
As we continue to promote a drug-free culture at school we will continue to make every attempt to keep drugs out of the building. We will continue to conduct similar drills in the future.
Sincerely,
Catherine A. Allain, Berlin High School, Principal
Jason Breh, Berlin Middle School, Principal”[/private]
