BCS Sports Award Night

June 14, 2013 By eastwickpress

by David Flint

Winning the trophies for Most Outstanding Athlete at the Berlin High School Sports Awards Night on Monday evening were Maria Gordon and Sakan Sadowsky.
Athletic Director Art Schmick recognized Gordon as a “hard worker,”  an outstanding soccer player who also played a vital role in varsity basketball. She was MVP on both teams. She also made Central Hudson Valley League First Team in both sports and was named the League’s Most Valuable Player in soccer. She was also the first girl in Berlin’s history to make All-State in girls soccer.
[private]Schmick said Sadowsky, too, was both an outstanding soccer player and outstanding in volleyball. He was Berlin’s MVP in varsity soccer and, as a new player on the volleyball team, he was named Most Improved Player. He made CHVL First Team in both sports and was named the League’s MVP in soccer.
The Gabe Duffy Award, named after the former beloved and well respected BCS soccer and basketball coach, goes to a soccer athlete who always works hard and perseveres. Schmick said this epitomized Sarah Bentley, a member of the girls volleyball team and a “terrific basketball player” who suffered an injury this year..
The CHVL Senior Awards go to athletes who play at least two varsity sports and who exhibit outstanding qualities of leadership, character and good sportsmanship. The Boys CHVL Award went to Dylan Hover and the Girls Award went to Erika Pelletier.
Players designated as Most Improved and Most Valuable Players on Varsity teams were:
