Hoosac Varsity Boys Basketball Beats RPI JV

February 8, 2013 By eastwickpress

submitted by Mike Foster
On Sunday, February 3, the Hoosac School Owls traveled to Troy to take on the RPI JV team.  Not knowing what to expect the Owls tried to focus on the fundamentals of offense and defense all week.
The game got off to a slow start with the Hoosac cagers trailing 2-0 after four minutes.  The expanse of the RPI facility had a lot to do with the many missed shots.  Finally Charles Wingate got on the board with a triple and then the team settled in for the remainder of the half.
Hoosac began the second half trailing 32-29 but that lead didn’t last for RPI with the Owls streaking out to a 10 point lead after four minutes of play.  After several small runs by RPI and subsequent answers by Hoosac the score was 80-65 in favor of the Owls with about three minutes to play.  Trading baskets with RPI to the end of the game led to a final of 88-76 Hoosac.
The game featured several crowd pleasing dunks by Unique McLean and some sharpshooting three-pointers from Wingate and Trevor Farrell. Gregg Braithwaite had a huge second half with 20 points (22 overall), and Blair Manners cleaned the glass with 13 rebounds and 10 points.  All of the Owls saw action and scored.
The scorers were Braithwaite – 22, Wingate – 21, McLean – 20, Manners – 10, Farrell – 6, Maslauskas – 5, Guscott – 2 and Borora – 2.
Hoosac is now 9-3 and plays at Millbrook School on Wednesday.
