New Lebanon – Helen M. Ham Miller, 92, formerly of West Street, New Lebanon, NY, died on Thursday evening, January 10, 2013, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington, MA, where she had resided for four years.
Born in Philmont, NY, on January 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Bertha Proper Ham. She was the loving wife of the late George B. Miller, who died on September 11, 2000. They were married in the Mellenville Dutch Reformed Church in Mellenville, NY, on June 25, 1938. She has been a resident of New Lebanon since 1942.
Helen was raised and educated in Philmont. She was a homemaker in her early years and was very active in the New Lebanon Congregational Church. She worked in the office of Larabee Fuel in New Lebanon, retiring in 1981. She loved traveling with her late husband; they wintered in North Carolina. Her hobbies included cooking and baking. She loved feeding the “whole neighborhood.” Besides her parents and husband, she is pre-deceased by a son, Craig B. Miller, and sisters, Mildred June and Leona Mortefolio.
Survivors include her children, John D. Miller of Texas, Susan C. and husband Malcolm Larabee of New Lebanon, Bruce K. Miller of Texas and Paul A. and wife Darleen Miller of East Nassau, NY, her brother and sister, Arthur Hamm and Marjorie Garry, both of Philmont, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services per Helen’s wishes. Her and her husband’s cremated remains will be buried next to her son in the West Taghkanic Cemetery in West Taghkanic, NY, in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown, NY.
