The Hoosick Falls Central School Drama Club has been rehearsing for the past seven weeks. This week rehearsals are very long as the cast and crew count down to the opening night performance Friday. The cast of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None feels they are already ahead of schedule. “We’re ready,” they said at a get-together on Monday. They have been sworn to secrecy about the ending of this production as it doesn’t follow the book, the movie or the play. [private]The cast thought the play might be a little intense for little children and recommended it for those eight to ten years old and older. The first death, they said, is very dramatic. And, of course, the play includes murder – and swearing. The deaths, though sometimes violent, happen behind the scenes. There is nothing graphic to disturb the audience. And, cast members said, they add their own light moments to the script to keep the production from becoming too dark.
The play takes place on an island off the coast of England in the 1940s. One cast member said she had never read Agatha Christie before and is now a big fan. “The writing is great; she’s so great!” she said.
They all agreed that their goal is to have the audience suspect everyone. They want them to be suspicious of every character and mindful of who is on stage and who is not.
The three performances are on Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. There will be an intermission during each performance, and refreshments will be available in the cafeteria for purchase. Thanks to the support of the Hoosick Falls Central School, admission remains free for all.
