It has been a big week for the seventh seed Hoosick Falls Central School Boys Soccer Team. Last Friday, October 26, in a game at Delurey Field against tenth seed Voorheesville, the team won its first playoff game at home in 10 years. Voorheesville scored first and was ahead at the half. The game changer was when Senior Captain Chris LaCroix won a second half penalty kick. Midfielder Evan Phillips’ penalty kick sailed past the Voorheesville goalie to tie the score. With eight minutes left to play LaCroix scored and that was it, a 2-1 victory for the Panthers. Goalie Noah Chani had three saves.
On Sunday, October 28, in quarterfinal play in Galway, Hoosick Falls won 2-1. It was a tough battle. HF was the first to score when Chris LaCroix picked up a deflection and popped it in. Evan Phillips had a beautiful corner kick for Taylor Baker to head into the goal. HF was up 2 to 0 at the half. However, Galway found the net in the second half. Hoosick Falls held the lead with some outstanding defense to win the game. Galway didn’t back away, scoring within the last 10 minutes of play. Not enough. The victory belonged to Hoosick Falls.
On Wednesday, October 31, in Johnstown, HF defeated 14 seed Stillwater 2-1. Stillwater scored in the first seven minutes. No matter. Senior Captain Chris LaCroix managed to tie the score before the half. Then midway through the second half Tyler Carr scored the winning goal.
This Saturday, November 3, Hoosick Falls will play Maple Hill in Colonie for the Section II Title.
