It was cool and overcast Sunday, October 7, for the Annual St. Mary’s Academy Cow Plop and Car Show at the Town of Hoosick Athletic Fields. Youngsters were oblivious to the weather as they enjoyed hay rides, bouncy bounce, pumpkin painting, games and laser tag from morning to afternoon. There was plenty of food for everyone, plus raffles, a silent auction, politicians and, of course, the main event – the Cow Plop.
[private]Ben Patten of MAGIC 590 AM kept the crowd of 500 or so entertained all day and especially during the “waiting periods.” The first wait was for all the deeds to the squares in the Cow Plop field to be sold. At the start of the day there were over 100 still available. It was well after 1 pm before all the deeds were owned.
Finally, the “Cow of the Day” and her calf, owned by Bruce and Robbie Church of Hoosick Falls, came out onto the field. At first everyone gathered around the fenced in area to closely observe where she might plop. And the wait began! Folks meandered back and forth from the fenced area to the car show. After some time the deed was accomplished. The plop landed in the center of the square owned by Miss Nolan’s St. Mary’s Academy pre-k four year old class. It was not a difficult decision for the judges at all. The children in that class each brought in their own money, pooled it and bought the square. Now they will decide how to spend their good fortune! After the cow did her thing the calf got in the act too, and when the calf finally plopped, Shadow Maynard won $100. Congratulations winners.
Car Show
The 2012 Car Show was very well attended. Sixty cars, trucks and motorcycles from all over the northeast participated. There were many new entrants this year. As always, the vehicles were in tiptop condition and glistened in the afternoon fall sun. The Best of Show award went to the vehicle with the most votes over all. This year the Award went to Greg Luke of Hoosick Falls for his 1946 International K2 Pick Up.
Chuck and Sherry Harriman of Manchester, VT, and their 1947 Ford Coupe won the coveted Donna Martin Memorial Award. The award is in memory of Donna Dooley Martin who always attended and participated in car shows with her family. The award winner is chosen by the Martin family. Congratulations to these winners.
All in all, the day was a great success.
