Last Friday, the visiting Panthers took on the Schuylerville Black Horses on the Horses’ home field. The Panthers flew out of the gate, taking a 20 – 0 first quarter lead. A 24 yard pass from quarterback Billy Pine to Randy Tutunjian along with two Brad Burns running plays (17 and 67 yards) gave the Panthers all the points they would need to bring home the victory. Schuylerville scored twice for 12 points early in the second quarter, but the Panthers scored the final 23 points of the game to win going away. The Panthers’ record now stands at 5-0.

Brad Burns led the rushing attack, leaving cleat marks and shoulder pad impressions all over the Black Horses, romping for 220 yards on 17 carries. Quarterback Pine had 7 completions for 186 passing yards. Randy Tutunjian led the receivers with 4 catches for 99 yards, and Josh Brogue snagged two passes for 73 yards, one for a TD.
The defense was at the top of its game, with Bryan Sherman wrapping up 16 tackles and Brandon Hodges adding 15. Sherman also received the MaxPreps Overall Player of the Game Award. Special mention should also be made of the pass defense, which held Schuylerville to 6 yards through the air. The Black Horses completed only 4 passes, two to Schuylerville receivers and two to Panther defenders for interceptions (Pine and Levi Brewster). Defensive tackle Derek Bird recovered a fumble. Damon Dubois kicked a 30 yard field goal to close out the scoring for the game.
On Friday, October 5, the Panthers will host the Corinth Tomahawks (2-3) on the HFCS field. Start time is 7 pm.
