Saturday, February 22, 1823: Today I received a line from the Deputy to appear to Troy on Monday next for a petty jury.
Sunday, February 23: This evening I started for Troy. Wm took the cutter and carried me about four miles, and then I walked on to the Town of Sand Lake to a tavern keeper by the name of Blewer and stayed. I got there about ten o’clock this evening.
Monday: This morning I paid my lodging and a glass of bitters to said Blewers. The whole was nine cents. I then went on to Troy. I got a ride part of the way on a load of wood. I got into Troy about ten o’clock. I sold five yards of pressed flannel to Vail’s wholesale and retail store and took a due bill for two dollars and fifty cents to be paid in goods. Said cloth I sold for sister Eleanor. I then went to the court house but the court was not called. I then agreed with the crier of the court to board with him the time that I am detained at court fifty cents per day. About twelve the court came in and called the Juries and then adjourned until five, and then called and the court made a few regulations and Wm Hunt stood as chief Judge and Corning and Vanalstine as the other judges, and Moses Warren the High Sheriff. Tonight I returned to said Billina Buck and took supper for the first time. One Mr. Puphaditus Devenix boarded and lodged with me, he is a juryman.
Tuesday we were called into court at noon. I was on two jurors, and my fee was fifty cents. Wednesday we were called into court again and I sat on one jury. My fee was 25 cents. Thursday I sat on one jury of a cililcas (sic – civil case?). My fee was 25 cents. Today brother Wm’s first son born. Friday I sat on criminal cases, some as found guilty and some not. Saturday we were called into court and I sat on a jury until noon and found not guilty.
