It is with great pride that local school winners were announced by Bennington Elks 567 this week. Winners of the Americanism essay, entitled “Why It Is Important To Say The Pledge Of Allegiance,” were McKenzie Bradley and Anna Wysocki in grades 5-8 at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. Both received a $25 check from the Lodge. All participants were awarded a beautiful certificate of participation.
The Drug Awareness program held a poster contest for grades three and four, and an essay contest for grades 5-8. Titles for both were “Why I Choose Not To Use.” Max Lockett, a fifth-grader at St. Mary’s Academy won a $25 gift card to Walmart on behalf of the Lodge. Again all participants were awarded a detailed certificate of participation.
The seventh grade essay winners from Hoosick Falls Central School were Katy Gardner and Tanner Cahill. These students won at the local and also state level of competition. Each was awarded a $125 bike or comparable voucher and was presented with a $50 savings bond at the Lodge dinner on Friday night, May 11.
