The second-graders at St. Mary’s Academy have been busy this year feeding cats and dogs in shelters. Since September the students have been visiting the website www.freekibble.com, a website launched by an 11 year old girl in Oregon who just wanted to help the shelter pets in her community. Three years later, the site has donated over 7 million meals to shelters all across the country and the SMA second-graders have helped to donate just about 3,000 pieces of kibble this school year alone. The students decided that they wanted to help out the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, VT. They organized a school -wide dress down day in order to buy beds for the shelter. They were looking to raise $115 to cover the cost of the beds and ended up raising over their needed amount. After the beds were ordered, the students took the rest of the money to buy toys for the animal at the shelter.
