Annual Books & Blooms Sales Event In North Chatham

May 4, 2012 By eastwickpress

Looking for something fun to do on Mother’s Day weekend? Come to the Books & Blooms Event at the North Chatham Library on Saturday, May 12, from 9 am to 1 pm.
• Annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables from local nurseries and area gardens are for sale. Perennials promised to date from local gardens include day lilies, bee balm, hardy herbs, vinca, lilies of the valley and mums. There are always at least 20 varieties proven to grow well in our local soil. New this year in the plant area is “adopt a baby house plant.” Established cuttings from “mother” plants will be available for $.50 each, along with older house plants.
• The book sale in the Library basement is back, categorized for easy viewing. New this year is a special opportunity for people who have VCRs. The Library is eliminating its VCR tape collection, and tapes will all be available at $1 each, with a standard grocery plastic shopping bag full for $5, while supplies last. Books remain for sale at their traditional bargain rate – paperbacks at $.50 each or 3 for $1, $1 for hardcover, with exceptional or new books at a higher rate.
• Raffle items are now available to view at the Library. They include a handmade lap quilt, a hand-hooked wall hanging, a one-of-a-kind dog bed made from recycled denim, an original mini oil painting of a sailing ship, a gift card to the Blue Plate Restaurant and a gift card for two tickets to all productions of the Ghent Playhouse next year. Tickets cost $2 each or 3 for $5, are available at the Library or can be bought at the day of the fair. Purchaser checks off which items they want to win, so your tickets are competing only for the items selected. Winners need not be present to win. There is also a 50/50 raffle at $2 each.
• Mother’s day gifts – new this year are locally made crafts perfect for a last minute gift or to treat yourself, $5 and up. Kids can make a pretty gift for mom for $1
• There will be a bake sale with delectable desserts and sweets.
Event is held at the Library on the main street of the hamlet of North Chatham, 4287 Route 203; phone 766-3211. All proceeds will benefit the N.C. Library. Early admission at 8:30 costs $10; admission free 9 am to 1 pm.
