Panther Softball Takes Two

April 6, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley
In a blustery Monday afternoon meeting at Schuylerville with the Black Horses, where the strong wind made every fly ball an adventure, the Lady Panther softball team prevailed in a 9-3 come from behind win. At the bottom of the third inning, Schuylerville held a 3-2 lead. But HF went on the score at least 2 runs in 3 of the last 4 innings to win going away. Senior Rachel Quackenbush pitched a 13 strikeout performance, with freshman Rachel Pine providing the offensive firepower with 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Junior Frankie Pearson also had 4 hits.
On Wednesday, the Ladies met the Greenwich Witches at the HFCS diamond on another cold blustery day. Hoosick Falls jumped out to a 1-0  lead on a first inning, over the fence, home run by Rachel Quackenbush. Greenwich quickly answered with a run of their own. In the bottom of the fifth, Hoosick Falls put 2 runs across the plate with some nice hitting. That ended the scoring, and Hoosick Falls came away with a 3-1 win and a 2-0 league record in the young season. Quackenbush threw six strikeouts in the win.
The Ladies have shown an ability to manufacture runs. This was the big pre-season question, could they score runs? With Rachel Quackenbush’s proven record of being able to get pitching outs, along with having an offense that can put baserunners across home plate, the Panthers could prove to be a potent team.
