Dear Editor,
What are tax caps for? I was led to believe they were put in place to stop the runaway tax increases on taxpayers.
When small town boards and school districts can manipulate and override tax caps because “they don’t want to be constrained” on fiscal problems that might arise, that is completely why tax caps were put in place.
Taxpayers in the valley and beyond must stick to their household budgets. Many of us would like to add a new deck, fix the roof, buy a steak, etc., but if the money isn’t there, we wait until next week, month or year.
Stop finding ways to manipulate and maneuver around the 2% tax cap. Entitlement days are over. Stick to your budgets – that’s what tax caps are for.
Sincerely,
Kate Wiggans
