Hoosick Falls – Douglas R. Ogilvie, 86, of Palm Coast, FL, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Florida Hospital Flagler. Born July 31, 1925, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Mr. Ogilvie was a son of William and Ina Reith Ogilvie.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, September 1, 1942, at the age of 17. His Marine Corps job specialty was as a dog handler. He saw action on Peleliu, Kwajalein and Okinawa. He received two Purple Hearts, as the result of wartime injuries, and other military decorations. Mr. Ogilvie was honorably discharged December 9, 1945. After returning home, he worked as a plumber and in heating service. His final business was Doug’s Oil in Hoosick Falls. Mr. Ogilvie was a member of the Marine Corps League and the DAV in Flagler Beach, FL, and a life member of the VFW and Hoosick Falls Fire Dept. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending summers at his camp at Hedges Lake, NY. Mostly, he enjoyed the company of his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Florence Remancus, whom he married on May 29, 1948, two daughters, Dr. Sheila and husband Dr. Michael Tebbano of Palm Coast (formerly of Niskayuna, NY) and Diane Miller of Hoosick Falls, two sisters, Isabel McGuire of Hoosick Falls and Norma Pettit of Albany, NY, a brother, Richard and wife Sandy Ogilvie of Eagle Bridge, NY, a sister-in-law, Elaine Ogilvie of Lakeland, FL, five grandchildren, SSgt. Eric and wife Claribel Tebbano USAF, Marcella Tebbano, Allison Tebbano, Laura and husband Danny Ramos, Derek Miller, a great-grandson, Mason Ramos, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William Ogilvie.
Family and friends were received on Thursday, April 5, at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach where funeral services were held at 10 am. Interment was Thursday at 1:30 pm at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
