The Petersburgh Fire Department was given overwhelming approval by the voters to buy a new fire truck at the vote held on Tuesday evening March 27. Twenty-eight ballots were cast – 26 in favor and 1 against. One was void because the voter was not enrolled.
[private]Chairman of the Petersburgh Fire Commissioners, Terry Neaton, said the truck has been ordered, and he thanks the people for their support.
The new truck is a 4 wheel drive initial attack/brush truck with 300 gallon capacity and compressed air foam capability. It will cost $262,000, of which $112,000 will be paid from existing funds in the apparatus reserve fund and the remaining $150,000 from a five year bond. It will replace a 1956 Maxim pumper, which is to be sold. The Department expects the new truck to arrive around the end of September this year.[/private]
