The Berlin Central School chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is entering its busy time of the year. While this group does many things throughout the school year, it is currently getting ready to attend a State leadership conference. In order to attend FCCLA will be holding some fund-raisers to help cover the cost of attending.
They are currently holding a seed sale. You can order seeds at $2 a packet. To place an order, contact Dianne Mosher at 658-2515, ext. 241. Future events will be a plant sale closer to Easter and another one for Mother’s Day.
No Kid Hungry Campaign – Rock-A-Thon This Friday
Another worthy cause they will be raising money for is the No Kid Hungry Campaign. They are holding a Rock-A-Thon at the school on March 9. Students will get sponsors and at least $25 in sponsorships allow them to rock in rocking chairs beginning at 6 pm on the 9th to 6 am on the 10th. The No Child Hungry Campaign is this year’s National Program.
The students who will be attending the State Conference include students in both the Middle and High School. They are learning leadership skills. Courtney Kellar is a sophomore who is an officer-elect and at the State Conference will be installed in a ceremony to become a New York State Officer. Jackson Burhans is an eighth-grader, a Junior Officer and is currently working on a STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition). Jackson is making diaper bags out of recycled jeans. Two other students are also working on a STAR event, Laura Ryder and Sierra Maxon; they are also eighth-graders. These girls are putting together “Bundles of Joy” for new mothers. They are looking for gently used baby clothes from new born and up. They are also looking for donations of diapers, baby wipes and other various baby items.
