Letter To The Editor – The Tradition Is Strong

To the Editor:
This is written in hopes of acclaiming the accomplishments of the wrestlers of Hoosick Falls. It has been many years since the Panthers have claimed the League and Class Sectional crowns. As one of many who had grown up watching and eventually participating in the strong tradition of one of the toughest, most unforgiving and relentless of sports, I feel a great measure of pride and nostalgia, as do all the alumni of HFCS wrestling as we enjoy the fruits of the labor of the young men who continue to compete on the mats this year.
Wrestling is almost a singular sport to high school athletes in which you walk out alone, compete and win or lose by yourself, with no one else to help you, no one else to share, either the win or the loss. There is a great team aspect as well, but one at a time each goes out and battles on his own.
The character and sportsmanship displayed by most in this sport bond them all together and is in itself the reward. It is with the most gratitude that I write of the good character, the fierce and fair competition, displayed by this team. They are a credit to the school and community. Thank you Coaches Nelson, Taber, Pine and Marsh. The tradition is strong still.
