Panther Matmen Go 3-2 At Burgher Duals

Facing off against teams from elsewhere in Section II and beyond, the Hoosick Falls wrestling team went 3-2 at the Burgher Duals on Saturday, January 7, in Warrensburg. The Panthers recorded wins over Beekmantown, Albany Academy and Morrisville Eaton while falling to host Warrensburg and Hudson Falls.
Against Warrensburg, Bryan Sherman, Mike Matatt and Brad Burns won close matches while Jeremy Barss and Tom Peabody won by pins. Luis Weierbach looked impressive as he picked his opponent apart and won by tech fall (15-0). Despite the wins, the Panthers lost 44-32 to the hosts.
In their dual against Beekmantown, Nolan Foster, Weierbach, Sherman and Burns won their matches while Peabody, Tyler Randall and Jeremy Barss won with pins. These matches led Hoosick Falls to a 50-24 win.
Wrestling against Albany Academy, the Panthers scored five wins by pins. Colby Davendonis, Garrett Wright, Mike McGuire, Shane Barss and Peabody had those wins. This was Shane Barss’ first varsity win, and Peabody’s pin came in just :46 seconds. Mike Matatt won his match 3-1, and Hoosick Falls won the dual 57-13.
Against Morrisville Eaton, the Panthers had matches won by decision by Weierbach, Burns, Wright and a tech fall win by Randall. Sherman, McGuire, Jeremy Barss and Foster each won by pin, helping Hoosick Falls to the 45-30 victory.
And finally, against Hudson Falls, Weierbach and Foster each posted wins by decision. Sherman, Burns and Jeremy Barss each won by pin. Hudson Falls won the dual 53-25 on their way to an undefeated record on the day.
The top wrestler on the day for Hoosick Falls was Jeremy Barss who was 5-0 with four pins. Luis Weierbach and Brad Burns were also 5-0. Tom Peabody, Bryan Sherman and Nolan Foster were each 4-1 on the day, with Peabody picking up three pins and Sherman two pins.
