The kindergarten class at St. Mary’s Academy recently held a Hats For Cancer fund-raiser in memory of their beloved teacher, Susan Greenberg, who passed away this past fall after a brief battle with cancer. Mrs. Greenberg was an assistant in the pre-k classroom at SMA last year. Her students in the current kindergarten class wanted to do something to honor her memory.
The class and their teacher, Jenn Betts, paired up with the adult cancer center at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and the pediatric cancer patients at Albany Medical Center. The goal of the class was to have newly made or store bought hats brought in from the students of St. Mary’s Academy before the end of the holiday season. Due to the tremendous response from the students, the class exceeded its goal of 100 hats. The hats were taken to their respective hospitals to spread a little holiday cheer.
