Berlin Sixth Grade Receives Grant To See Mummies

January 6, 2012 By eastwickpress

by Sherry Bowman-Kluck
Thanks to a scholarship grant and Stewart’s sponsorship, the sixth grade students of Berlin Central School had the opportunity to view a movie presented at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady this past December. Kimberly Bugbee, Sixth Grade Team Leader, applied for and obtained a GIANT Screen Scholarship Grant to see the film “Mummies: Secret of the Pharaohs.” It told the exciting story of mummies that were discovered in the late 19th century. The presentation directly correlated to the sixth grade social studies curriculum and included the study of ancient Egypt and the process of mummification.
The sixth grade team is working hard to advocate for students to learn more than just the core curriculum of its subjects. While students typically use textbooks, as well as hands-on projects, this ilearn film experience allowed students to explore the course of study utilizing a different media type, which is both fun and educational.
