Devin Franklin of the Flying Deer Nature Center will present “Wilds Edibles in Winter” on Thursday, December 15, at 6:30 pm at the New Lebanon Library. The program is oriented to adults and teens.
Once winter settles into the Taconics, it’s not too late to enjoy the fine flavors that our forests and fields have to offer. Trees offer teas, seeds offer cereals, roots offer repast, and even some greens endure the freeze. Participants will learn to identify the top ten Winter Wild Edibles that earn high ranking for flavor, findability and fun. Patrons may bring in their own samples to identify.
Franklin’s naturalist training began in his childhood suburban backyard where he was encouraged to explore, discover and learn about nature in the small patch of forest there. His passion for sharing nature with others (especially children) led him to twelve years of nature mentoring and community building through the Flying Deer Nature Center, which he runs with his wife, Michelle Apland.
This program is free and open to the public. The New Lebanon Library is located at 550 State Route 20, ¼ mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20/22.
