Greenwich battled Hoosick Falls hard on Monday, October 3, and it was an exciting back and forth game. The Panthers’ tough defense, Aaron Delurey, Shawn Harris, Michael McGuire and Josh Brogue, limited the opportunities for the Witches. However, six minutes into the second half, Christopher Herbst struck a low hard ball from 35-40 yards out, and Cameron Cox redirected the shot with his head around the GK to open up the scoring. Hoosick Falls answered a few minutes later when an

offensive player dribbled along the end line and shot a hard ball across the goalmouth. The Greenwich keeper stopped it, but spilled it as he went to the ground with the ball. Tyler Carr finished by putting home the loose ball. With 16 minutes remaining PJ Priore got a breakaway and beat the Greenwich keeper for a 2-1 lead. Greenwich thought they had the equalizer in the final seconds of play when they scored off a cross, but the official blew the whistle as the Greenwich player was heading it, ending the game before the ball crossed the goal line and making for an excruciating ending for the State ranked Witches.
Hoosick Falls played a great game today; they hustled and would not give up and that was the deciding factor in today’s contest. Cody Gaines played a great game in net for the Panthers. Greenwich led on shots, 9-7, and on corners, 5-3. Gaines had 8 saves; the Witches’ English had 5.
