The Berlin boys cross country team ran what Coach Rick Ingraham called one of its best races of the year on Saturday at the Maple Hill Invitational. Ingraham’s top five runners all finished within one minute of each other. With results like these, the Mountaineers hoped to knock off Berne-Knox-Westerlo, their biggest challenger in Class D this year.
Erik Viner came in 10th place with a time of 17:28. Following him was Alex French in 13th place. Evan Dawes and Connor Brown finished 16th and 17th, followed by Connor Hoyt, Rocco Farano and Doug Hoard in 21st, 29th and 32nd places. While Berlin’s pack finished ahead of several BKW runners, Berne-Knox-Westerlo runners took both second and third place, helping their team take first place. The Mountaineers finished in second place.
The girls varsity team had a tougher time on Saturday at the Invitational. The girls had just five runners and were led by Brittany Dickhaus in 21st place with a time of 21:50, and Kayleigh Corrado in 33rd place in 22:27.
