On Saturday, October 8, seven Berlin students traveled to Schoharie to help with the continuing clean-up from Hurricane Irene. Berlin staff members, Karen Day and Michelle Halleran accompanied the students. Once there, they met up with Global History teacher Bob Gould, his wife Jess, a music teacher for the Schoharie school district, and their niece. The Berlin crew arrived with shovels, hammers, crow bars, sledge hammers and buckets to help one family finish up with the removal of flooring and dry wall in order to prepare for an inspection of their home. Hopefully it will be determined that the owners can begin reconstruction of their property. Students were speechless at the devastation left behind after the flood waters receded. Berlin students and family members hope to join their teachers and administrators next month as plans are being made to return to Schoharie to help out again.
