Brandon DeShane, who graduated in June from high school in the Berlin Central School District and who attended the Rensselaer Vocational Center and studied Construction Technology competed in the SkillsUSA Regional Carpentry Competition at the Schenectady Airbase in February 2011. Brandon won 1st place in the Regional Carpentry Competition whereby he was sent to the States Competition in Syracuse.
After several weeks of complicated scoring, DeShane became the true 1st place winner in the

States Carpentry Competition. Brandon received State Recognition, a trip to Nationals in Kansas City and a large number of name brand tools. Brandon was a student Ambassador to the National Carpentry Competition that takes place June 19 – 24.
Brandon excelled in the Construction Program at the Rensselaer Educational Center. He received this year’s award in outstanding Craftsmanship. Brandon also received a $750 Scholarship from the Rensselaer Ed. Center and a $1,000 Scholarship from the NYS Builders Association and Capital Region Builders. He was recognized with a $100 Scholarship from SkillsUSA as an outstanding student. Brandon also received a $1,000 Scholarship from the Berlin Alumni Association.
Brandon would like to thank everyone who has helped him further his educational goals through their scholarship donations.
Brandon will attend Cornell University in the fall to study the Equine Farrier Program and then return home in the spring to study Electrical Construction Maintenance at Hudson Valley Community College.
