Seven musicians from the Hoosick Falls Central School band were selected to perform with the MD-20 Lions Youth band. This band is selected from all over New York State and the Island of Bermuda. Bermuda is part of the Long Island Lions District.
The students perform with this select band for various aspects of the Statewide Lions Convention held annually. This year it was in Rochester at the Riverside Convention Center. The 60 member band is directed by Bill Gaillard, retired music teacher from Hoosick, who was named Director in 2000 by founder of the band Dick Herfort. Hoosick Falls students have participated in the band since 1982.
Students from Hoosick Falls participating in the April 28-May 1 event were Samantha Brewer, flute, Amber Crandall, flute, Levi Brewster, tuba, Brennan O’Donnell, trombone, Adam Frazier, percussion, Madison Greenwood, bass clarinet, and Dimitri Tracy, clarinet.
Students are sponsored by the Town of Hoosick Lions Club. In addition to performing, the State Lions treated the band members to the Rochester Museum and Science center as well as the George Eastman Home.
