HFCS Bowlers Win Sectionals

February 18, 2011 By eastwickpress

On Tuesday, February 15, the Hoosick Falls bowling team won the Section II C-D Tournament for the third time in five years. With a six game total for five bowlers of 5,930 pins they beat Mechanicville with a pin total of 5,531 and Fort Plain with a pin total of 5,524 on a difficult oil pattern. Hoosick Falls had the third highest total of all A, B and C-D schools, only being outscored by eventual winner Class A Colonie with 6,486 and Class A Guilderland with 6,007.
Hoosick Falls got off to a great start in the morning round with game totals of 1,013, 1,055 and 1,072 pins. At this point they led the tournament by 335 pins over the rest of the 27 schools that participated. In the afternoon round they still bowled great with totals of 908, 978 and 904, which kept them in the lead for the entire tournament. They were the only team in the tournament to have a single game total in the thousands.
Individual totals for six games were Joe Wolfrum 225, 223, 202, 226 – 1,258, Mitch Andrew 235, 214, 242 – 1,236, Chris Pelletier 218 – 1,156. There were two great morning rounds, one by Cody LaFlamme 200, 256 – 653 and one by Bryan Callahan 221, 211 – 617. Individual games were bowled by James Lynch 204, 201 and Josh McCart 146.
Joe Wolfrum made the Section II State Team with his total of 1,258 and will bowl in Syracuse on March 6. This is the second time that he has made the team; he qualified two years ago when he was in ninth grade. Cody LaFlamme had the third highest triple of 653 for the tournament.
“This was an outstanding end to our very successful season. The entire team bowled great, especially under the difficult oil pattern that was used for the tournament. I’ve said all year long that two reasons why we do so well is we have a good depth of bowlers on the team who can bowl good at any time and our bowlers can adjust to changing lane conditions. Yesterday, the bowlers were adjusting in every game which gave us the big advantage over the rest of the field. All their practice and years of experience paid off for this big win,” said Coach Lang.
