The New Lebanon boys basketball team was able to hold off a resilient Berlin team en route to a 70-45 victory on Tuesday night. Despite the Mountaineers’ rough 0-9 start thus far, they showed great improvement from just two weeks ago in the Hoosick Falls Holiday Tournament. Unfortunately for Berlin, those improvements weren’t enough to knock off sharp shooting Mike Gavrity and the Tigers.
Berlin took an immediate lead in the game when Seth Hawk nailed a three-pointer. But Gavrity turned around and nailed a three-pointer of his own to tie the game. From there the Tigers would lead the rest of the game. Gavrity was a nightmare for the Berlin defense all night. The senior scored 34 points, including 13 in the first quarter and 15 in the third quarter. He also seemed to put an end to all of the Mountaineers’ scoring streaks. Bryan Potter and Kyle McHugh each scored 10 points for New Lebanon. Berlin was led by Seth Hawk with 25 points.
