Mountain Road School is proud to announce its plans to expand to include seventh and eighth grade. Middle school students will continue to benefit from the school’s innovative, nature-based curriculum and nurturing, child-centered philosophy. Mountain Road School offers academic excellence, small classes and individualized attention, community service-learning and environmental study in partnership
with the Flying Deer Nature Center. Multi-age learning experiences reinforce the school’s strong social curriculum. Applications for grades pre-k – 8 are being accepted for Fall 2011.
The MRS seventh and eighth grade curriculum will center on multiple-disciplinary, self-directed experiential learning. Students will take on leadership roles within the school and in the greater community, utilizing local resources and the creativity of local community members. “We believe learning can happen both inside and outside the walls of our school,” said Director Kathleen Adams. Because children learn best when they are interested and motivated, the middle school curriculum is designed to be exciting for each learner. Singapore math is featured as well as hands-on instruction in the sciences.
Mountain Road School is located just past Darrow School on Abode/Darrow/Shaker Road in New Lebanon, on the NY/MA border off of Route 20. The campus includes 400 acres of beautifully terraced organic gardens, fields, woods and streams. For more information, please call 518-794-8520 or visit www.mountainroadschool.org.
