John F. Seeks To Collect The Rent

Thursday, January 4, 1855: Today John F. drew timber off Geo P. hill with ox team in drags, it is chestnut timber. this evening John F. and Charlotte E. and Geo P. and wife went to Lebanon Springs to Henry Hull’s to Festival, it cost them 75 cts apiece or one dollar and 50 cts a couple, they went in one horse wagon.
Saturday: This morning I walked up to Mr. John Russel’s and borrowed a butcher knife and this forenoon my two sons butchered two of my fat pigs and this afternoon John F. walked up to the funeral of old widow Patching, Elder Conover preached at the house of the residence of the deceased, and John F. walked to N. Nichols store and paid one dollar and 37½ cts for an ax.
Monday: John F. walked to Pittsfield but could not bargain pig pork and got home by 9 o’clock this evening.
Tuesday: Today Geo P. and wife started for Albany, they had my old horse and lumber wagon, he put his horse on side mine, carried part of a load of apples, and this morning Mr. Ames came and paid Geo P. four dollars apiece for 49 fat wethers.
Wednesday: This forenoon John F. walked over to Squ. Wm. Hand  to see what could be done to make John Merrils pay his house rent or have him quit the house.
Thursday: This evening Geo P. and wife returned from Albany, while Geo P. was at Albany he went up to Troy on the cars, he called to the Budget office and paid one dollar, which pays for the Budget from April the first 1854 to April the first 1855 and took a receit and Geo P. paid 3 dollars and 50 cts for half a ton of plaster and fetched from Albany, and Geo P. and wife stayed with us tonight.
Friday: Geo P. went to Lebanon with my horse and wagon. He carried my grist of corn and left to E. Harrison’s mill, he called to Edgar Brown’s school snd notified him for John F.  to pay up his rent or move out his house.
Wedneday: Today noon John F. returned home by way of Squ Wm. Hand’s and took out a summons for Edgar Brown and John  Merrils concerning their not paying their rents, and handed the summons to constable Elisha Bennet and said Bennet came and took supper with me and then John F. rode with said Bennet to serve the summons on Edgar Brown. They found said E. Brown to R. A. Brown Jr. store and served said summons.
